Wade Johnson went 3 for 3 with a home run and was the winning pitcher on Thursday as the Heritage High School baseball team scored a 7-5 victory over visiting Rancho Mirage.
Johnson homered in the first, doubled in the fourth, and singled in the fifth for the Patriots, who scored three runs in the second and three in the fifth. Johnson scattered seven hits, walked four, and struck out three. Heritage is now 2-1 this season.
Dominic Reyes had two hits, including an RBI single. The Patriots collected 11 hits and stole seven bases.
Santa Rosa Academy’s baseball team lost 9-4 at San Jacinto. Nate Bock had two hits for the Rangers, who are 1-2.
In softball, Paloma Valley scored a 10-0 win over Jurupa Valley. The Wildcats (4-2) scored four runs in the third inning and five in the fourth, finishing with 11 hits. Laura Liera went 3 for 3 with an RBI, Maya Lawrence went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, and Brooklyn Berni went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
Kadie Urban was the starting pitcher and pitched three scoreless innings. Kaydence Koepsell pitched the last two innings of shutout ball.
The Liberty boys lacrosse team lost 8-7 to Portola. The Bison girls lacrosse team also lost a close one, 9-8.
Santa Rosa Academy’s boys volleyball team defeated West Valley, 3-1.
