Longtime local resident and volunteer Mary Carnes was honored by the City Council last week as Menifeeās Citizen of the Year.
Carnes was selected by the Citizens Advisory Committee from the list of 12 Citizens of the Month honored by City Council members last year. She was originally selected by Acting Mayor Bob Karwin.
Carnes is one of the major leaders of Arts Council Menifee and constant supporter of the arts in all forms. She is a volunteer with the Menifee Valley Community Cupboard, is active with the Chamber of Commerce, and joins her husband Chris in opening up their home to guests to celebrate Christmas and Halloween.
āWeāre grateful for your leadership in Arts Council Menifee,ā council member Dan Temple said during the recognition ceremony. āWithout the things you do ⦠Menifee would still function, but it would look very boring. You bring music to us, arts to our walls, and humanity to the city.ā
āIt means so much to me,ā Carnes said about the award. āIām humbled and grateful. I do it out of the love of my heart and my love for the city.ā
