Two of the three Menifee high schools entered in the So Cal Holiday Classic girls basketball tournament won their first-round games on Saturday and will be in action on Monday as the tournament continues in San Diego.
Heritage will take an 11-6 record into Monday’s 1:30 p.m. against Redwood. The Patriots handed Atwater a 55-44 loss on Saturday. Isabella Duarte scored 18 points with 11 rebounds, LaKaila Trimble had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Tamia Jackson finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Also in that tournament, Liberty (7-5) will play West Hills Monday at 4:30 p.m. The Bison scored a 30-29 victory over Mira Mesa in the first round, outscoring the opposition 13-4 in the fourth quarter. Jayda Reese had 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Aubrianna Anderson had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Paloma Valley lost its tournament opener to Canyon Hills, 49-34. The Wildcats (6-6) will face San Dieguito Academy on Monday at 10:30 a.m.
In boys basketball, Liberty will play South High of Bakersfield and Paloma Valley will face Foothill Monday in the third round of the Classic at Damien in La Verne.
Liberty (7-8) bounced back from a first-round loss by defeating Cathedral 54-53 in the second round, outscoring the opposition 27-11 in the fourth quarter. Paloma Valley (6-10) also bounced back from a first-round loss, defeating Chatsworth 66-65.
In the Loma Linda Academy Holiday Tournament for boys basketball, Heritage will play Redlands Adventist Academy Monday night at 7 p.m. The Patriots improved their record to 8-5 with a 77-44 victory over Rim of the World in the first round.
