Diego Mekonsto played a big part as well, finishing with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists. Desean Logan contributed 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Anthony Contreras made a free throw in the game’s final minute to tie the score at 43-43 and send the game to overtime. The Patriots dominated play in the overtime session, forcing the play and drawing fouls to outlast the opposition.

Heritage is 5-1 this season, having won five straight after a season-opening loss. The Patriots will be at home again Friday night at 7.

“It was a very fun game,” said coach Adrian Contreras. “Our first overtime game of the year. I felt like the boys responded really well after starting the game down 8-0. Diego Mekonsto really stepped up as a leader and filled the stat sheet.

“I’m also very proud of the way Quentin played. He played the entire fourth quarter and overtime with four fouls and still executed at a high level. Sophomores typically don’t play in those situations with the maturity he did. Battles like this prepare you for league and playoff games down the road.

“I also would like to add that I’m proud of the way Desean stepped up. With Ivan [Clark] fouling out and Quentin being in foul trouble, Desean made winning plays and was a calming presence in a hectic game.”
