Heritage High kept up its streak of winning one-goal games Saturday, scoring a 1-0 victory over Patriot in the CIF-SS Division 5 girls soccer semifinals.
The Patriots will play in the CIF championship game next Friday or Saturday against Viewpoint, a 3-2 winner over Estancia. Date, site and time will be announced later.
Heritage will take an 18-8-1 record into the CIF finals. The team has won twice on penalty kick shootouts and twice by 1-0 scores in the playoffs.
The only goal of the game came in the fourth minute when Lexie Jimenez got past the defense and sent a crossing pass to Kaila Castellanos, who put the ball in the net. Both teams had scoring chances the rest of the way but failed to score.
Coach Michael Mattison praised the defensive play of Yahaira Sevillano, Jazzy Villa, Noemi Diaz, Leah Hareu, Zoey Romero, Rebeca MayHernandez, and Anastacia Martinez, along with the standout play of goalkeeper Brisa Quiroz.
