Two adult males were arrested on firearms charges Monday after police responded to a report of shots fired in Menifee.
Menifee Police Department officers responded at 11:42 a.m. to the report that a subject exited a vehicle and fired several rounds toward the hills north of the Valley Boulevard and McCall Boulevard intersection in the Sun City community, according to a news release. Officers located several bullet casings a Sheriff’s helicopter made an aerial search, but no suspects were located.
Then at about 4:17 p.m., officers located two males in a vehicle matching the description by the reporting party. A traffic stop was initiated and the passenger fled on foot, prompting a pursuit.
The driver and passenger were taken into custody and arrested near Newport Road and Town Center Drive, according to jail records. Jakeem Lorenz Jones, 20, faces three felony charges of carrying a concealed, unregistered and loaded firearm, plus two misdemeanor charges. Savon Percy Brazier, 21, faces one misdemeanor charge for conspiracy to commit a crime. Both were released on bail Tuesday and are awaiting court dates. Police did not release the cities of residence for the suspects.
Jones dropped a loaded 9mm handgun during the foot pursuit, authorities said. A search of the vehicle recovered a magazine and a 50-round drum.
“A test fire of the recovered weapon using the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network allowed our officers to make a presumptive match to the firearm from the initial shots fired incident,” the news release stated.
