A motorcyclist from Menifee suffered minor to moderate injuries Wednesday in a collision that occurred while he was splitting lanes on the 215 Freeway in Murrieta, authorities said.
The incident occurred at 8:20 a.m. on the southbound 215 near the Murrieta Hot Springs exit, according to California Highway Patrol officer Mike Lassig. The 23-year-old male motorcyclist, whose name has not been released, was riding a 2024 Yamaha RX motorcycle at approximately 75 mph, splitting the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes.
A 40-year-old female from Murrieta was driving a BMW 330i in the No. 2 lane at approximately 40 mph due to moderate to heavy traffic. The driver of the BMW began to change from the No. 2 lane to the No. 1 lane. The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the BMW and collided into the rear of that vehicle.
The impact pushed the motorcyclist toward the No. 2 lane, where he collided with a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
The CHP and Murrieta Fire Department responded to the scene. The motorcyclist was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center. The drivers of the other two vehicles were wearing their seat belts and were not injured.
The No. 1 and No. 2 lanes were closed for about an hour following the collision.
“The CHP would like to remind the motoring public to always ride or drive using a high visual horizon and travel at a safe and prudent speed, which will allow you to be able to see a potential obstacle and react safely to it,” Lassig said.
