Newly appointed City Council member Ben Diederich was sworn in and took his seat at the dais Wednesday. Diederich then announced the names of his appointees to the various city commissions and committees, and they were also sworn in at City Hall.
Michael Knighten was appointed to the Planning Commission. He was formerly a member of the Quality of Life (Measure DD) Oversight Committee. Tom Giedroyce was reappointed to the Parks, Recreation and Trails Commission. Debbi Manion was appointed to the Senior Advisory Committee, David Cross was appointed to the Menifee Citizens Advisory Committee, and Nicholas Zappia was appointed to the Quality of Life Oversight Committee.
Darci Castillejos – a retired Naval officer and longtime Menifee resident and volunteer — was appointed to the new Veterans and Military Families Advisory Committee.
Diederich’s appointment to the City Council created a vacancy on the Planning Commission. Council member Dean Deines reappointed to the Planning Commission Randy Madrid, who had just left the commission because the council member who appointed him – Mayor Bill Zimmerman – left the council in December.
In another matter at Wednesday’s meeting, the City Council accepted a notice of completion of renovations to the E.L. Pete Peterson Dog Park, located within the E.L. Pete Petersen Park at Park City Avenue and Murrieta Road. The project included new fencing, a new entryway, a shade structure, benches, water fountains, and new dog play structures. Total cost of the project was $40,012.70.
