Three people were injured Thursday night in a multiple-vehicle collision on Domenigoni Parkway at the eastern city limits of Menifee.
At about 8:30 p.m., a Ford Mustang was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed, according to a Menifee Police Department news release. The Mustang approached the intersection of Domenigoni Road and Lindenberger Road, where the traffic signal was set to flashing red lights. The Mustang driver failed to stop at the intersection, lost control, and collided with a Honda Civic and a Honda Accord.
The Mustang driver, a 17-year-old male from Murrieta, sustained major injuries and is listed in critical condition in a local hospital. The driver of the Honda Civic, a 41-year-old male resident of Menifee, sustained moderate injuries and is in stable condition. The driver of the Honda Accord, a 52-year-old male resident of Menifee, sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.
Witnesses provided information to police officers and the investigation is ongoing. It was determined that neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the collision. Those involved were not named by police.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Officer Harper with the Menifee Police Traffic unit at 951-723-1567, or the traffic unit at 951-723-1500.
Menifee Police issued the following statement as part of their press release:
“Residents are reminded to adhere to the following California Vehicle Code when traffic signals are out or flashing red to ensure safety. When all traffic signals are completely inoperative, drivers must stop at the intersection and proceed cautiously only when it is safe to do so, as stated in CVC 21800(d)(1).
“If the signals are flashing red, drivers must treat it as a stop sign, stopping at the marked limit line, the crosswalk, or the nearest point with a clear view of traffic, as outlined in CVC 21457(a). Following these rules helps prevent accidents and keeps all road users safe.”
