The Heritage High girls basketball team beat the Paloma Valley Wildcats Tuesday night, 80-47.
Senior Sierra Maxwell was Heritage’s highest scorer with 27 points. Maxwell continues to lead in points this season, averaging 19.9 points per game.
Paloma Valley’s Mianna Bravo scored the first two points of the game, but Heritage quickly captured and kept the lead. The Patriots worked efficiently on both ends of the court, while the Wildcats struggled to take opportunities. This work ethic from Heritage gave the Patriots a 22-10 lead after the first quarter.
This continued in the second quarter with Heritage’s LaKaila Trimble scoring the first points. The gap between the two teams continued to grow. Paloma scored only 6 points, while Heritage added another 23 to the board. Many 3-point shots were made, bringing the Patriots up to a 45-16 lead by halftime.
Even after halftime, the Patriots stood their ground. Paloma crept up, going from 16 to 29 points in the third quarter. However, Heritage kept up and extended their lead to almost 30 points. Possession evened out slightly throughout the last two quarters, but still, Heritage ended the game with a big lead.
Heritage head coach Deanna Mejier said, “We always enjoy playing Paloma because it’s our crosstown rival; it’s always fun playing them.”
