A group of seniors from the Sun City community presented special holiday gifts on Tuesday to the Marines at Camp Pendleton – over 860 chocolate-covered pretzels and marshmallows and assorted other snacks.
More than 45 residents worked together to make the goodies. Their first stop on Tuesday was the Wounded Warrior Battalion, followed by visits to the Amphibious Assault Battalion and Camp Pendleton Hospital.
The project was organized by Mary Ann Hillery, with many volunteer helpers. It took nine carloads to transport the volunteers and the pretzels, marshmallows, jerky, chips, cookies and drinks. About 80 pounds of chocolate was used.
In addition to the work of the residents, donations were made by Patrick and Cathleen DePillars with Down Right Blessed Foundation of Beaumont and Todd Sieja of Western Eagle Foundation.
