Police investigating shooting death of Menifee man

Police are investigating the death of a Menifee man found with a gunshot wound at a local residence Wednesday night.

Officers from the Menifee Police Department responded at 11:04 p.m. to a call for service at a residence in the 25000 block of Antelope Road in the Romoland community, according to a news release. Officers were informed they would be assisting Cal Fire with an unresponsive male subject.

Officers discovered the man lying on the floor with what appeared to be as gunshot wound to the chest. Efforts to provide first aid were made, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, detectives were called to the scene and began an investigation. This is believed to be an isolated incident and all parties involved are cooperating police. There is no current threat to the community, authorities said.

The deceased was identified as Emmanuel Villalobos, age 42. No other information was released.
