Menifee Police are investigating an incident involving a 17-year-old who was located at a local business with a gunshot wound Friday night, authorities said.
Police responded at 9:20 p.m. to a business in the 26100 block of Newport Road. Witnesses reported on social media that the business was a Carl’s Jr. restaurant. Patrons called 911 when the victim entered the business seeking help, according to a Menifee PD news release. Officers arrived to find the victim with a single gunshot wound to the leg, just above the knee.
Officers rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a nearby medical facility. The injury is not considered life-threatening.
Initial statements confirmed that the shooting did not occur inside the business. The preliminary investigation indicated the shooting took place within the City of Menifee, but the exact location has not been determined.
The incident appears to be isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the community, police said. No other information was given about the victim or any suspect.
