Motorcyclist killed in freeway collision near Scott Road

A motorcyclist died Saturday night in a collision with another vehicle on the southbound 215 Freeway just north of Scott Road, authorities said.

The incident occurred at about 8:35 p.m., according to a California Highway Patrol news release. A 24-year-old male from Lake Elsinore was driving a 2017 Chevy Camaro in the No. 1 at approximately 70 mph. A 19-year-old male was riding a 2021 Aprilia RS660 motorcycle behind the Camaro at a high rate of speed, estimated at 100 mph.

For reasons that are still under investigation, the motorcyclist failed to slow as he approached the Camaro and collided into the rear of the vehicle. The rider was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Gabriel Ruiz Valles of San Diego. The driver of the Camaro remained on scene and cooperated with the CHP. There are no charges pending.

This incident occurred about a half-hour before another collision at the southbound 215 Freeway and the McCall Boulevard bridge. Several vehicles were involved and multiple individuals were transported with non-life-threatening injuries.
