Menifee 24/7 honors Liberty High Athletes of the Month

Menifee 24/7 is pleased to honor Athletes of the Month for November at Liberty High School. Honorees were selected by the coaches of their respective sports and were recognized with a presentation of certificates and photo opportunity on campus.

Philip Chiu has been a driving force for the boys soccer team, said coach Garrett Hayden.

“Phil had an amazing start to the season in November with two goals and an assist in three games in addition to the energy and work rate he displays on the pitch,” Hayden said. “As a senior, he has proved himself to be a great example for the younger members of the squad of what it takes to compete and excel in the game.

“Phil’s passion and ability have made him an essential part of the team and his diligence and hard work can be seen in everything he does in school and in multiple sports simultaneously. Always the image of respect, class, and composure, Phil has earned all his accolades and achievements with many more to come.”

Mariah Broyles was honored for her success in leading the girls water polo team.

“Mariah has been an invaluable member of our water polo program for the past three years, during which she has demonstrated exceptional leadership as a captain for all three seasons,” said coach Hailey Badham. “She currently holds the program records for most goals, field blocks, and steals, reflecting her outstanding athleticism and versatility.

“A natural talent, Mariah consistently gives her best effort both in and out of the pool, dedicating herself to continuous improvement for the benefit of her team. Beyond her impressive athletic achievements, she is also a source of positivity and encouragement, fostering a supportive environment with her infectious attitude and thoughtful words. Mariah’s contributions to the program extend far beyond her on-field performance, making her an exemplary leader and a true asset to the team.”

Senior guard Jaden Ortega was honored for his play on the boys basketball team. Ortega surpassed 1,000 career points last month and is shooting 44 percent from 3-point range for the Bison, who have a 7-3 record.

Kelli Harris-Wellman is the leading scorer and rebounder for the girls basketball team, which has a 3-3 record.

Representing the Bison wrestling program are two standout athletes, John E. Phillips and Siana Valentine.

Atianna Gipson has been chosen to represent the girls soccer team.

“Ati has been a stable and integral part of establishing the Liberty girls soccer program's success and culture,” said coach Anthony Bennett. “She is one of only three athletes that have been with the program since year one. Ati is our team captain, a leader and role model for the entire program on the field, in the classroom, on campus and in life.

“Ati is the one on the team always giving her best for her team on both sides of the ball, from scoring amazing goals, making assists or winning the ball back with strong tackles. That effort sets the tone for the entire team to where everyone plays for each other with full effort. I can say honestly our program would not be where we are today and as successful as a team if it was not for Ati's work ethic, determination and selflessness, because that energy is infectious and I am truly proud to have her on our team.”
