Sierra Maxwell was a key contributor in helping the Heritage High girls basketball team defeat Norte Vista 80-3 on Thursday night. Maxwell reached a milestone of 2,000 career points, which is a huge record for high school basketball.
The flow of Thursday night’s game was very consistent, with the Patriots having the ball in the offensive zone for a majority of the game. LaKaila Trimble was also a major contributor to the win, recording 16 points of her own.
Maxwell led all scorers with 28 points while reaching her milestone. Afterward, she stated how she felt about the incredible feat.
“It feels great,” she said. “I feel like a lot has been accomplished in my four years just being here. I just feel very proud of myself and my team because I couldn’t have done any of this without them.”
She then went on to talk about her mentality for the rest of the season.
“I feel really great and confident,” she said. “I feel we are going to go very far in the playoffs, just with this team and how we are together. We’re like really close, family-like, so that also helps us on the court and playing against other teams. I’m just really proud of us.”
Maxwell made history as Heritage’s only player ever to reach 2,000 points.
The Patriots improved their season record to 10-0 and look to continue building on this winning streak when they face Paloma Valley on Dec. 19.
