We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Joyce Dean Alden, who peacefully entered the glorious presence of our Lord Jesus Christ on July 6 at the age of 93 in California.
Born on Dec. 15, 1930, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Ernest and Grace Jarrell, Joyce led a life filled with love, adventure, and service. Raised by her devoted parents, she enjoyed an idyllic childhood filled with church activities, retreats, and camps.
Joyce married John Alden in 1947, and they welcomed their first child in 1949. In 1950, the family relocated to Guam for John’s naval service. When the Korean War broke out, Joyce, pregnant with their second child, was unable to fly due to military restrictions and instead made the courageous journey back to the United States by military ship -- a memory she fondly cherished.
Joyce raised her six children in both California and Alaska, where she was an active member of both the Anchorage Women’s Club and the Art Club, where she exhibited and sold her paintings. Later, to care for her parents, she moved to Sun City, California, where she became a vital member of the Sun City Travel Club, helping seniors explore the nation. She served on the board of directors for many years, mentoring others with her wisdom, warmth, and unwavering spirit. Joyce was well respected by everyone who knew her and was loved for her infectious laugh and great sense of humor.
Joyce’s love for her family and friends was evident in every aspect of her life. She had a profound passion for watercolor painting, often capturing the delicate beauty of flowers and cherished scenes from her memories. Her beautiful paintings continue to inspire and bring joy to those who knew her, serving as a lasting reminder of her artistic spirit and love for nature.
She will be dearly missed by her children: Mitch (Jo Anne), Franklin (Leah), and Eugene (Vicki). She is now reunited with her children Linda (Ken), John (Debbi), and Steve (Joyce) in eternal peace. Joyce’s legacy lives on through her 22 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was adored by all who knew her, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts.
A celebration of Joyce’s beautiful life will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 at Menifee Bible Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Rest in peace, dear mother. You are now forever in the arms of your Savior, and your memory will be cherished always.
