The Liberty High volleyball team finished their match at Heritage Tuesday night with a three-set victory. The final scores of the first two sets were both 26-24, while the third finished 25-16.
Liberty head coach Morgan Spencer said the win came after a mental battle from her team.
"I'm proud of our girls and their mental toughness tonight," she said. "We started off slow but the girls warmed up and ultimately we were able to bring it back and win."
Spencer added that her blockers impressed her in the game, the foremost of which was Madison Rosal, who had nine solo blocks and 12 total blocks on the night. Isabel Mazza had four total blocks and led the team in digs with nine total.
Kierstynn Vogt led the Bison attack with eight kills on the night, followed by Catalina Loven, who had seven.
The team had 11 aces served in the game and Loven had three of those.
Liberty is now 9-8 overall, while Heritage is 6-11. Both teams are three games into league play. While the Patriots have yet to win a league match-up, Liberty is undefeated.
Spencer said the winning starts with an attitude that she sees in her on-court captains.
"Lilly Webb and Catalina Loven led the team with their winner attitudes and leadership," she said. "Every athlete on this team contributed to this win and we look forward to playing Arlington on Thursday."
That next matchup for the Bison will be at home at 6:30 p.m.
The Patriots will look for their first league win at Lakeside on the same day at 5:30 p.m.
