State, regional and local dignitaries joined Menifee residents Friday in the dedication of the Menifee Justice Center in Menifee Town Center.
The Riverside County facility, which opened last month, includes nine courtrooms that will handle family law and civil cases. No criminal cases will be heard there. The MJC replaces an aging courthouse in Hemet. It provides amenities not available at the previous courthouse because of space restrictions, including jury assembly and deliberation rooms, an adequately sized self-help center, and attorney and witness waiting rooms.
Cost of the courthouse to Riverside County was $95,253,000. The criteria architect was Perkins and Will and the construction manager was Clark Construction Group, LLC.
“This courthouse is a manifestation of our commitment to our ideals,” said Judith C. Clark, presiding judge of Riverside County. “It is both an investment in our judicial system and a commitment to all the individuals, families and businesses of our community to provide access to justice and a forum for the peaceful resolution of disputes.”
A special guest at the ceremony was California Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero.
“I’m really honored to help dedicate this justice center for the residents of the Menifee community and Riverside County," she said. "The justice center we celebrate today is a full-service court facility which can also provide space for four new judgeships – something we all know is critical for this community.
“Like our judicial county courthouse projects, this building also was designed to address energy use and sustainability through various green design features. This is a reflection of the fact that our courts can and should play a significant role in the health of the environment.”
Representing the City of Menifee, Mayor Bill Zimmerman led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance. Four City Council members were present, along with city manager Armando Villa and many other staff members.
After the ceremony, guests were given guided tours through the three-story facility.
