Members of Girl Scout Troop 1070 made an impressive presentation to the Menifee City Council Aug. 21, asking for support in making the area around their school safer.
Five girls appeared before the council to express their concern about lack of signage and street markings around Kathryn Newport Middle School. They also requested that trees blocking current signs be trimmed. Their presentation included detailed comments and suggested solutions. The girls also met with a city official before the meeting to discuss the issue.
“They worked very hard on this and took the project very serious,” said Scott Hall, the husband of Troop leader Veronica Hall and father of one of the girls. “They wanted to make a difference that positively impacted their friends, classmates, neighborhood and community.
“The response from the Council and immediate call-to-action was amazing to see in real-time. It brought a lot of great emotion and pride.”
The project was part of their bronze award.
“You didn’t just come here today. You came with solutions, so kudos to you,” said council member Lesa Sobek.
