Longtime Menifee resident and community volunteer Amy Frahn was honored Wednesday by the City Council as Citizen of the Month.
Frahn is perhaps most recognizable in the community as the director of the Challengers baseball program for special needs youth and adults. Sensing a need for such a program 14 years ago, Frahn has joined other adults in mentoring special needs players of all ages who love the game.
The Challengers program, which has been run as part of both Menifee Valley Little League and Menifee Pony Baseball over the years, has helped more than 100 players.
Another venture that is close to Frahn’s heart is her leadership in the Menifee chapter of The Compassionate Friends, a grief support group for parents who have lost children. Frahn’s daughter died from meningitis, and she is Amy’s inspiration for her efforts in the support group and Challengers program.
Frahn is also coach of the cheer team at Heritage High School.
