Longtime Menifee resident and senior activist Gloria Sanchez was honored by the City Council on Wednesday as the Outstanding Citizen of the Year.
Sanchez serves as chair of the Menifee Senior Advisory Committee and is active on many regional boards. She serves on the Menifee Interfaith Council and is involved with the annual free Thanksgiving meal for Menifee residents.
“Gloria is a shining example of what a volunteer is,” said Mayor Pro Tem Dean Deines, who nominated Sanchez for the award.
Council member Lesa Sobek said she has known Sanchez for years, since their first meeting at a Riverside County Office of Aging event.
“Gloria is such an advocate for seniors – not only in Menifee, but in the county and internationally,” Sobek said.
Sanchez was also presented proclamations from the offices of Assemblyman Bill Essayli and senators Roscilie Ochoa Bogh and Kelly Seyarto.
