A Menifee man faces charges of elder abuse and assault after attacking his parents in their residence and locking himself in his own residence, police said.

Garrett Hexum, 41, was booked into the Southwest Detention Center after the incident, which occurred about 5 p.m. Sunday on Adjer Street west of Murrieta Road, according to public information officer Chase Coburn of the Menifee Police Department. A search warrant was used to gain access to his residence. Officers were quickly able to locate the suspect and make the arrest.

Information on the parents’ health status was not released. There was no threat to the public during the incident.
