Paloma Valley's Jayden Epps won the CIF-SS Division 1 title in the discus on Saturday.
Jayden Epps of Paloma Valley High School won the CIF-SS Division 1 championship in the boys discus Saturday, becoming the first male CIF track and field champion in school history.
Epps, who was also a football and wrestling standout for the Wildcats this year, broke the school record for the second week in a row with a mark of 187-7. He was dominating in the CIF-SS prelims last weekend as well with a winning mark of 173-7.
Epps will represent the Wildcats next weekend in the CIF Southern Section Masters meet in an attempt to qualify for the CIF State meet.
Two other Paloma Valley athletes competed in the CIF-SS divisional finals on Saturday. Matthew Monsanto placed sixth in the high jump and Arthur Clemons placed ninth in the triple jump.
Heritage High School’s Andreese Ortiz placed third in the girls discus with a mark of 129-0 and sixth in the shot put at 37-5. Terrence Whaley of the Patriots placed eighth in the 110 high hurdles.
Santa Rosa Academy’s Braylon Taylor placed third in the Division 4 triple jump at 43 feet. Juan Juarez of Liberty placed seventh in the boys Division 1 800 meters with a time of 1:53.27.
