Bison softball team loses by a run in Southern Regionals

Liberty High School’s softball season officially came to a close Tuesday when the Bison lost a 5-4 decision to Otay Ranch in Chula Vista in the first round of the CIF Southern California Regionals.

Liberty fell behind 3-0 early in the game but fought back with two runs in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh. The Bison’s 4-3 lead slipped away in the bottom of the seventh and final inning when Otay Ranch scored two runs for the victory, however.

Attiana Thompson and Julianna Larson had two hits each for the Bison while Thompson, Kaylee Fraund, Haley Kitzerow and Julie Tompkins drove in runs.

Liberty’s season ends with a 22-8 overall record. The Bison lost by one run to Valley Christian in the CIF Southern Section finals a week ago before being offered the berth in the Regionals.
