Shelly Hobbs, a Menifee resident and activist for public safety in the community, was honored Wednesday by the City Council as the Outstanding Citizen of the Month for April.
Hobbs knows full well the importance of public safety, especially for school children traveling about the community. Her son was seriously injured while riding a bike near Bell Mountain Middle School. According to Hobbs, he would’ve died had he not been wearing a helmet.
Motivated by this incident, Hobbs created the “Helmet Up” program, which donates helmets to the Boys and Girls Club and various schools in Menifee. She also devotes time to the Gale Webb Action Sports Park, providing cleanup and safety tips for young bicyclists.
In addition, Hobbs serves as a crossing guard and works as a campus supervisor at Kathryn Newport Middle School in Menifee.
