Paloma Valley athletes perform well at league track finals

Jayden Epps won the Sunbelt League title in the shot put Wednesday.

Several athletes scored victories and six qualified for the CIF prelims when Paloma Valley competed in the Sunbelt League track finals on Wednesday.

Senior Jayden Epps won the shot put and discus events, while sophomore Arthur Clemons won the long jump and triple jump. Paloma Valley swept the high jump competition, with Nathan Cook winning the league championship.

CIF qualifiers included Epps in the shot put and discus; Clemons in the long jump and triple jump; Cook, Matthew Monsanto and Jarrell Barnaya in the high jump; Barnaya in the long jump; and Eddie Cortez in the discus.

Other notable performances:

Matthew Monsanto, 2nd place in the 400 meters
Dylan Eniem, 2nd place and new sophomore school record in the 200 meters
Matthew Monsanto, Jarrell Barnaya, Anthony Hall, Joe Garcia, 2nd in the 1600 meter relay

Nathan Cook, Matthew Monsanto and Jarrell Barnaya swept the top three spots in the high jump.
