Sheriff’s deputies today arrested a Menifee man in connection with a hit-and-run collision that left a juvenile suffering from major injuries, authorities said.
Mlouie Qutami, 29, was located and taken into custody in Murrieta as the suspect in the collision, which took place Feb. 14 near the intersection of W. 3rd Street and S. C Street in Perris. Deputies arriving on scene that day located a juvenile near the roadway with major injuries, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release. The vehicle involved in the collision had fled the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a dark colored full-size truck collided with a parked vehicle a short distance away. As the truck began fleeing the initial collision scene, it then struck the juvenile as he was crossing the street with his family.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle was a 2023 Ram 1500. Qutami was later identified as the driver of the vehicle. He was booked into county jail for hit and run resulting in injury, driving on a suspended license causing great bodily injury, and three outstanding warrants.
