The Menifee Planning Commission last week approved plans for Coronado Condos, a project including 73 single-family dwelling units on a 9-acre parcel in northwest Menifee.
The project site is located west of Murrieta Road and south of Thornton Avenue. It is scheduled to include 71,601 square feet of common open space area with a dog park, tot lot with shade structure, bocce ball court, walking trail, open turf area, and both covered and uncovered bench seating.
Commission Chairman Jeff La Due commented on a flier circulated by local residents saying the project was going to be low-income apartments. But in answer to a question, the applicant said this is not true. Many of the letters of protest received from residents were rescinded after this was made clear that these would be single-family detached condos.
“I’m glad to see there’s a purchase option to this so people have a sense of home ownership,” said commissioner Chris Thomas.
Grading of the property is expected to begin in about six to nine months, with construction on a two-year timetable.
