The Santa Rosa Academy boys wrestling team won its fifth consecutive league championship this week and the girls team won its league title for the first time.
Both teams went undefeated throughout the South Valley League season. The boys beat Hamilton 48-30 to win their title and the girls beat Hamilton 36-18 to clinch their title.
Most of the Ranger wrestlers will be on the mat again Feb. 9-10 to compete in the CIF Individual Championships. Thirteen out of 14 weight classes will be represented when the boys team competes in the Northern Division tournament at Sonora High School. A majority of the girls will head to Adelanto High for the Central Division tournament.
The Rangers boys team has fared well in tournament all season. In the Riverside County tournament, they placed 17th out of 36 teams and senior Dryden Strauser (138) finished second. Caleb Delgado (150), Ryan Galvan (157) and freshman Lennon Tinahui (175) also placed in the top eight in their respective weight classes.
The boys also placed 20th out of 57 teams in the Blackwatch tournament, led by Strauser (fifth), Delgado (seventh) and Galvan (seventh). The Rangers also placed high in the Shadow Hills and Lakeside tournament.
The girls placed third out of 19 teams in the Riverside County tournament, led by Sophia Sims (second), Bryleigh Delis (second), Gracie Raxter (fourth), Samantha Pierce (third), Jenna Thompson (third), and Keirana Medina (fourth). Sims also took fifth place in the Blackwatch tournament.
