In another record-breaking performance, the Paloma Valley High boys wrestling team qualified seven wrestlers for next weekend’s Masters Meet with strong showings at the CIF-SS Southern Division championships on Saturday.
As a team, the Wiledcats finished a close second overall. Individual qualifiers for Masters, with their finish over the weekend listed, are:
Syruss Flores (1st) - Back to back CIF Champion (first ever at Paloma)
Javon Major (2nd) - 3-Time CIF finalist (first ever)
Simon Flores (5th) - 3 -time Masters qualifier (rare feat)
Benji Ruiz (2nd) - 3-time CIF placer (rare feat)
Jake Barnes (6th) - 2 Time placer)
Jose Jimenez (3rd) - (2 time placer)
Brandon Owen (3rd)
Stacy Brown, who placed sixth, is an alternate for Masters. And Travis Coleman reached the podium in a crowded field of highly state-ranked wrestlers, beating out the 2 seed.
The Wildcat girls team finished in the top 15 out of 66 schools at the CIF-SS Central Division championships. Athena Saenz Franco finished in fourth place and qualified for the Masters for the second year in a row.
