Paloma Valley High School held its first-ever First Semester Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, Jan. 9. This special hour-long ceremony was designed to acknowledge and praise the school’s hardworking students with awards given by teachers and administrators for accomplishments during the first semester.
The ceremony packed the gym to capacity with supportive parents cherishing the success of their students. Interim PVHS Principal Julie Blied said around 1,000 students were recognized with awards ranging from unique teacher awards as well as Honor Roll.
For students, their smiles indicated the effort was heartwarming to get recognized for their positive contributions to the school. Many students received multiple awards. This new aspect of teacher awards allowed many teachers to honor students they believe earned the acknowledgment in their classrooms.
These awards varied from hard work ethic to even being a student with the best smile, exactly what Paloma Valley strives to find in many students. Many explained how shocking it was for them to receive their reward, as they never realized the difference they were making on campus.
Blied said these students are role models.
“Students receiving awards today are the epitome of what we believe Paloma Wildcats are,” she said.
Blied continually encourages students by motivating them to continue doing their duties for the betterment of student futures. With so many people attending, the impressive crowd continued gathering outside the gym. Not only was this event pleasing for teachers, but this has given many students motivation to become diligent workers.
Hopefully this event will continue and evolve into an annual Paloma Valley tradition to honor Wildcats.
"What we do in high school matters," Blied said.
