Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies took a suspect into custody without incident after the man barricaded himself in a structure at the Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in Menifee Tuesday night, authorities said.
The incident began about 4 p.m. when deputies located a stolen vehicle, according to Sgt. Wendy Gonzales. The driver tried to evade police by fleeing on foot in the area of Briggs Road and Tres Lagos Drive. Deputies located the suspect inside a structure in the park and began negotiating with him to resolve the situation.
During this time, a police helicopter hovered overhead and the RV park was placed on lockdown. Nearby Southshore Elementary School also was placed on lockdown, although regular school hours were over.
At 7:30 p.m., Sgt. Dierdre Vickers reported that the suspect had been taken into custody sometime earlier. The suspect was not named and no other information was immediately available.
