Press release from the City of Menifee:
MENIFEE -- In April, the Menifee community hosted The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial that includes a mobile Education Center. The exhibit is transported from community to community in a 53-foot trailer and during its visit to Menifee, it received thousands of visitors from across the region.
To memorialize this momentous occasion, the City of Menifee’s Communications Division has developed a short documentary titled “Memories of The Wall”, showcasing the stories of local Vietnam Veterans and community members directly impacted by The Wall That Heals’ visit to Menifee.
“Menifee continues to show our appreciation to the veterans in our community and partnering with Miller Jones Memorial Park and Mortuary and VFW Post 1956 to help bring The Wall That Heals to our city reflected that commitment,” said District 4 Councilmember Dean Deines. “From the City’s Military Banner Program to our Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans event, we will continue to honor those who have served our country.”
Since its debut in 1996, The Wall That Heals has been on display in more than 700 U.S. communities in addition to an April 1999 tour of the Four Provinces of Ireland and a visit to Canada in 2005. The Wall That Heals is a program of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF), the nonprofit organization that built the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. in 1982.
The Wall That Heals is the only traveling exhibit affiliated with The Wall in Washington, D.C. and includes the largest Wall replica that travels the country. Two VVMF staff members lead volunteers on site, educate visitors and students, and ensure the reflective atmosphere of The Wall.
The City of Menifee’s “Memories of The Wall” documentary will be available on Menifee TV, which is broadcast locally on Spectrum Channel 1301, Frontier Channel 25, and can be livestreamed at www.cityofmenifee.us/menifeetv. The documentary will also be available on the City of Menifee Youtube channel and Facebook page.
