Menifee native Robert Coleman was named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance as quarterback of the Lamar University (Texas) football team.
Coleman, who played at Vista Murrieta High School and Mt. San Jacinto College, completed better than 63 percent of his passes and connected with seven different receivers last weekend as Lamar beat Houston Christian, 21-19, in the Southland Conference opener. Coleman completed 19 of 30 passes for 294 yards and two touchdowns – all career highs.
The win marked the team’s first back-to-back wins since the 2019 season. LU opened conference play for the first time since the 2015 season.
During his junior college career at Mt. San Jacinto College, Coleman completed 312 passes for 4,473 yards and 45 touchdowns. He led the Eagles to a top 25 ranking and a runner-up finish for the American Division Championship.
