Former Heritage High student Alexcis Morris of the University of St. Katherine in San Marcos was selected as the NAIA Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week for her recent performance.
Morris received the national award after being honored as Defender of the Week in the California Pacific Conference. She is the first USK women’s volleyball player ever to earn a national Player of the Week award.
The national award is voted on by a group of NAIA sports information directors, according to a USK press release.
"I see this award as something for my entire team, not just myself. Getting recognition is amazing, but it feels even better that my school and team are getting recognized in the process," Morris said. "I am surrounded by such resilient women from teammates to coaches that bring out my best self every day. I am filled with so much gratitude and love for getting to experience and build on these relationships that have shaped me into who I am. All thanks to them and all Glory to God for allowing me this opportunity."
The senior from Menifee had 18 block assists across three matches last week, including a season-high seven against both Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Benedictine University. The Firebirds went 3-0 on the road trip.
