Vegetation fire blackens hillside by 215 Freeway

Emergency crews quickly stopped the forward progress of a vegetation fire Monday night alongside the 215 Freeway at the hillside divide between Newport Road and McCall Boulevard.

The fire was reported at 7:45 p.m. on a quarter-acre of the western hillside, according to Cal Fire spokesperson Maggie Cline-De La Rosa. Firefighters stopped the forward rate of spread at 10 acres and remained on site for mop-up. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.
