The Teen Recognition Night was held on May 31 to celebrate the accomplishments of the Youth Leaders of Menifee as well as the Menifee Teen Award Winners. Lake Menifee Women’s Club and Raising Canes each sponsored awards, giving prizes to the winners.
The Community Service Award is given to the Youth Leader of Menifee member with the Most Community Service Hours during the school year. It is sponsored by Raising Canes and was won by Meagan Macatangay. Meagan was the President of the Youth Leaders of Menifee this past school year and accumulated more than 150 hours of community service.
The Menifee Teen Awards is sponsored by the Lake Menifee Women’s Club and recognizes nine teens throughout the school year through accomplishments in community service, athletics, and academics. From those nine winners, the Menifee Teen of the Year is crowned.
The Menifee Teen of the Year, which included a $500 prize from Lake Menifee Women’s Club, was awarded to Caden Peterson (left). Peterson is a senior at Paloma Valley High School and participated in school sports, had perfect attendance, a 4.0 GPA, and was part of the National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation.
Runner-Up for this award, which included a $250 prize from Lake Menifee Women’s Club, was Katie Schneider. Schneider is a senior at Paloma Valley High School and maintained a 4.4 GPA while also being involved on campus and volunteering at Loma Linda Hospital.
The evening also highlighted the accomplishments of all the students in the Youth Leaders of Menifee Program. More than 70 students joined this school year and together hosted many programs and events for kids and teens in Menifee. Together they partnered with many local organizations such as Santa’s Workshop, Menifee Union School District, and Lake Menifee Women’s Club. The students completed nearly 800 hours of community service throughout the school year.
