Paloma Valley High sprinter Jason Deal qualified for this week’s CIF Masters Meet in two events and teammate Aaron Young qualified in one event during Saturday’s CIF Southern Section Track Finals.
Deal was clocked in 10.60 in the 100-meter dash to place fifth in Division 1 and ninth overall. The top nine overall finishers advance to the Masters Meet. In the 200, Deal ran a 21.21 to place third in Division 1 and fifth overall.
Paloma’s Aaron Young placed third in Division 1 in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.70. As the 10th overall finisher, he will travel to the Masters Meet as an alternate. Also qualifying was Liberty’s Juan Juarez, who placed fourth in Division 3 and ninth overall in the 800 meters.
Several other local athletes missed qualifying for the Masters but placed high within their own divisions.
In Division 3, Liberty’s Troy Thompson placed eighth in the 200 (22.24); Paul Ortega placed eighth in the 110 hurdles (15.84); the boys 400 relay team placed second in 41.99; the boys 1600 relay team placed ninth in 3:28.60; and the girls 400 relay team placed sixth in 49.64.
Heritage’s Elijah LaMothe placed ninth in Division 1 in the 400 (51.33) and the boys 1600 relay team placed seventh in Division 1 (3:25.82).
