Prep roundup: Gonzales leads Liberty baseball team to victory

Evan Gonzales hit a home run, triple, and drove in three runs Friday to help lead the Liberty High baseball team to a 6-2 victory at Colton in the first round of the CIF Division 5 playoffs.

Sophomore pitcher Koehn Freitas got the win, allowing just one run and striking out four batters in four innings. The Bison improved their record to 16-9 and will be at home against Estancia in the second round on Tuesday.

Ian Slater went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored for the Bison. Sophomore pitcher Riley Vogt allowed one hit in two innings and junior Jonas Phipps allowed one run in one inning.

In a Division 2 baseball playoff game, Paloma Valley lost at Tesoro, 2-1. The home team pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the victory. Philip Wolhar went 2 for 3 for the Wildcats and Gilberto Rodriguez hit a double.

In a Division 7 baseball game, Santa Rosa Academy lost a 1-0 decision at Banning.

In girls lacrosse, Heritage lost a 17-4 decision at home against Portola. Danica Doskocil scored three goals and Cassidy Shaw scored one for the Patriots, who finish with an 11-5 record.
