Two Hemet men were arrested and now face evading and robbery charges after leading police on a chase through several Menifee neighborhoods Friday afternoon, authorities said.
A Menifee Police Department officer was on patrol at Newport Road and Menifee Road when he was flagged down by several individuals outside the Rite-Aid store there, said Sgt. Terence York. The witnesses stated that the store had just been robbed and pointed out the vehicle that was fleeing the scene.
Several officers joined the chase through local neighborhoods. After the vehicle blew a tire near McCall Boulevard and Hillpointe Drive, the suspects fled on foot and jumped several back yard fences, finally running into a vacant field west of the Menifee Valley Medical Center. There they were surrounded and taken into custody.
The stolen cash was recovered and no one was injured.
One suspect was identified as 24-year-old Daniel Rios. The other suspect was not immediately identified.
