MENIFEE -- The City of Menifee is pleased to announce the promotion of Jonathan Nicks to Deputy City Manager. This position has been vacant since July 2021 and has oversight of three departments as well as city-wide operations.
Nicks is an experienced public servant with over 23 years of local government experience. He has served as Menifee’s Community Services Director for the last five years, overseeing parks, recreation, facility maintenance, and solid waste and environmental services. Nicks also served for nearly a year as the City’s interim Public Works Director between August 2020 and May 2021. In his new role as Deputy City Manager, he will continue to manage the Community Services Department, but will also assume new responsibilities in directing the City’s human resources and risk management.
“Jonathan has been a tremendous asset to the City of Menifee and has earned the trust of both our employees and the community,” said City Manager Armando Villa. “There is no doubt that Jonathan will excel in his new duties and will help continue to lead the city in the right direction.”
Prior to joining the City of Menifee, Nicks served as the Deputy Director for Orange County Parks and Community Services with oversight of a $120 million operating budget, a $30 million annual capital improvement program, and nearly 400 employees. Before that, Nicks was the Community Services and Public Works Director for the City of Placentia, where he also helped form the Placentia Community Foundation and served as the first Executive Director of the nonprofit that raises funds for community programs.
Nicks holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Cal State Long Beach, Leadership Certification from Chapman University, and Smart City Certification from Pepperdine University. He is a member of the National Parks & Recreation Association, American Public Works Association, California Parks & Recreation Society, and the Municipal Management Association of Southern California.
“It has been a privilege to work for the City of Menifee these past five years and I remain committed to delivering engaging community events and programs for our residents,” said Nicks. “As Deputy City Manager, I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that our City has the resources it needs to effectively serve the public.”
