The driver of a Mustang died Tuesday in a head-on collision with an RTA bus in northeast Menifee – the third death in a traffic accident in four days in the city.
The collision occurred about 3:18 p.m. near the intersection of Matthews Road and Palomar Road, according to a Menifee Police Department news release. The investigation revealed that the Mustang was traveling westbound on Matthews Road approaching Palomar Road, while the bus was traveling eastbound on Matthews Road.
According to witnesses, the driver of the Mustang was weaving in and out of traffic before colliding head-on with the bus. Further investigation will determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.
The driver of the Mustang was pronounced dead at the scene. Multiple passengers on the bus suffered from minor to moderate injuries.
The identity of the driver is being withheld until it is released by the Coroner’s Office. Anyone with additional information regarding the collision is asked to contact the Menifee PD Traffic Unit at 951-723-1690 or 951-723-1565.
A motorcyclist, identified as 55-year-old Canon Squires of Menifee, died in a collision with a Ford truck on Bundy Canyon Road on Saturday. On Sunday, 75-year-old Judith Armijo of Menifee died when her vehicle collided with another car at the intersection of Menifee Road and Watson Road.
