Smith resigns position as Heritage High football coach

Andre Smith has resigned his position as head football coach at Heritage High School.

Smith made the announcement on social media this week, following a season in which the Patriots lost all 10 games.

“I am grateful for the student athletes I have been able to positively impact at Heritage HS over the last two years,” Smith wrote. “Being able to develop a scholar athlete mindset, build a staff, capture a league title, produce the Defensive and Utility Ivy League MVP players, along with several All-Ivy League players, has been a joy. Unfortunately, due to philosophical differences with leadership, today I am resigning as the head football coach.”

Athletic director Brandon Jones did not respond to a request for comment.

Smith’s first team in 2021 went 5-6 overall and finished 3-1 in Ivy League play. The season included a 47-10 victory over Paloma Valley in the annual Menifee Bowl game. This season, after graduating several key players, the Patriots struggled to put points on the board and on defense. They were outscored 445-162.
