Menifee resident Lola Powell celebrates 100th birthday

Friends, family and fellow residents of the Sun City Gardens retirement community gathered on Tuesday to celebrate the 100th birthday of Lola Powell.

Fellow residents sang happy birthday to Lola and a choir from Lodge 882 of the Menifee Masonic Lodge sang Christmas carols. The group then shared birthday cake and beverages.

Lola was born Dec. 22, 1922 in Willcox, Arizona. She was married to Terrell Douglas Powell in 1941 and the couple had two children. They lived in seven different states. Her husband died in 1984 and her son passed away in 2012. Her daughter Virginia lives in Temecula. Lola has five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She has lived in Sun City Gardens the last five years. Lola was voted president of the Assisted Living Residence Council. She is working on a sequel to a book she has written about her life story.
