City and County officials gathered along with members of Fire Station 5 Friday to celebrate the groundbreaking for a new Fire Station 5 to be built on Goetz Road in Quail Valley.
The new facility will be 9,000 square feet and will house six firefighters with the capability to expand to eight as needs require. There will be three apparatus bays with space for a ladder truck and the newest technology in firefighting equipment.
“The residents of Quail Valley deserve the best, state of the art equipment, and that is why the City Council and our partners have been focused on bringing improvements that make this city one of the safest in California,” Mayor Bill Zimmerman said in reference to plans for the $8.6 million facility.
The old Fire Station 5 was built in the 1960s at the top of the hill in Quail Valley and is outdated, without sufficient space and equipment for firefighters. The new fire station will provide more protection for the rural area of Quail Valley and outlying areas.
“This is an exciting time to see what’s been on paper for several years actually come up out of the ground,” said Nick Fidler, city public works director. “It’s a huge investment in our community and something we want to be proud of.”
Also in attendance was Kelly Seyarto, outgoing State Assembly member and Senator Elect.
“Every new fire station is taking all the lessons from the other stations and incorporating that into their design and safety standards,” he said. “All of these are technologies that are being developed constantly.”
Bill Weiser, county fire chief, also spoke of the importance of the new fire station.
“I’m grateful for what this city does to provide for this community and the people we serve,” Weiser said. “I want to thank this City Council for your tenacity and your unwavering support of public safety.”
The new fire station will be located on the south side of Goetz Road, just east of Vista Way.
