Two former Menifee high school girls volleyball standouts are members of the Cal State Los Angeles team that recently won the NCAA Division 2 Western Regional Championship.Jameson Sanders (Heritage High) and Rachel Lowe (Paloma Valley High) will compete with the Golden Eagles when they face Gannon on Dec. 1 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Fall Festival.
The Cal State LA-Gannon match will take place at 5 p.m. on Dec. 1 at Seattle Pacific. The winner will face the winner of the Concordia-St. Paul-Southern New Hampshire match on Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. with the championship match being held on Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.
Sanders (left) earned first-team All-League honors all four years in high school and was the Most Valuable Player at the Freeway Tournament. She won the military Female Athlete of the Year award for 2022. Lowe (right) was on two league championship teams in 2019 and 2021 for the Wildcats.
The Golden Eagles, after winning the CCAA regular-season championship for the first time since 2005, picked it up a notch after falling to Sonoma State in the conference tournament semifinals. They were spectacular in the West Regional, beating Sonoma State in four sets in the first round and then sweeping Central Washington and Chaminade for the title.
