Press release from Mt. San Jacinto College:
The Mt. San Jacinto College Dance Department proudly presents “Sinew,” an evening of dance and discussion that highlights the experiences of faculty member Julenda (Julie) Satow Freeman’s Native American grandmothers and the ongoing impacts of colonization.
This event is part of the Native American Heritage Month Celebration at MSJC.
Through the interplay of past and present, eight dancers navigate a series of choreographies that interweave ancestral experiences of colonization and the lived realities of contemporary Indigenous assimilation.
This mash-up creates a visceral ‘telling’ of one family’s story, reflecting the ramifications of living in the wake of genocide, land theft, and stolen history.
Sunday’s performance is sold out, but tickets are still available for Saturday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the San Jacinto Campus Gym in room 1952, 1499 N. State St., San Jacinto.
Admission is free, but reservations are recommended as seating is limited. For reservations, visit the dance website.
