Facing a large deficit as the remaining vote counts continue to trickle in, Randall Freeman on Monday conceded defeat in his race against Steve Campos for the Trustee Area 1 seat on the Perris Union High School District governing board.
Campos continued to increase his lead when updated results were released on Monday, now totaling 3,668 votes – 63.17 percent of the votes counted. Freeman trails with 2,139 votes, or 36.83 percent.
Freeman has served for 14 years on local school boards.
“I would like to thank the people of Menifee who have allowed me to represent their children for the past 14 years,” Freeman wrote in an email to Menifee 24/7. “The 10 years on the Menifee Union School District Governing Board and the past four years on the Perris Union High School District Governing Board have been very rewarding. I appreciate the trust that you placed in me.”
Campos, a teacher in the area for 25 years, is victorious in his first attempt to run for public office.
