A 14-year-old boy from Menifee received serious injuries when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a road outside Liberty High School on Tuesday, authorities said.
The incident occurred at about 3:50 p.m. on Wickerd Road near the back entrance to the school, said CHP Officer Mike Lassig. A black Toyota Highlander driven by a 31-year-old female from Menifee was traveling eastbound at about 35 mph when the boy began to run across the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk, Lassig said. The driver attempted to swerve to the right to avoid the boy, but the vehicle’s front left struck the boy, who came to rest in the westbound traffic lane.
First responders rendered aid to the victim, who was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center with major injuries. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
